Going the Distance

I decided to train for my fist Marathon in May of 2010,  It was the Honolulu Marathon on Dec 11, 2010. I finished in 6:40:59.  The hardest part was the training. I trained for 6 months.  The longest training run I did was 22 Miles in Oct, my Dad biked with me the whole way!

I decided to Run my second Marathon and started training in September of 2011, it was the Honolulu Marathon on Dec 12, 2011. I finished in 5:41:29.  The hardest part was knowing what I was getting into this time and wrapping my head around it during the race.  John and I stayed at the Hilton the night before and ate at California Pizza Kitchen and then had pancakes from MAC24 delivered in bed at 0300!  I was very proud to have shaved an hour off my time from last year!

Serve My Country

I grew up an air force brat, attended ROTC in High School and Married a Marine.  I have always had great pride in being an American and had a desire to serve my country in some manner.  I had signed the line with the Air Force early in 2004 but did not feel the timing was right.  Tried again with the Air force in the summer of 2004 and when preparing to leave at MEPS discovered I was pregnant with Isaak.  In 2007 my Friend Megan Dearrington came home to visit and started telling me about the Coast Guard.

I went into the recruiters office the following week and signed up to leave in June of 2007.  I studied really hard and brought my ASVAB score up 30 points form when I took it with the Air Force and the Coast Guard told me I could do anything I wanted.

I graduated from 8 weeks of Coast Guard boot camp in August of 2007 and even got to be on the drill team and perform during our graduation ceremony.  John and I both attended boot camp during our services birthdays.  This was the first time John and I had been separated for our anniversary, even with his time in the Marine Corps.  The hardest part was being away from the kids!

John was the only family member that was able to come see me graduate and his presence meant so much to me!  He has supported me and wherever the Coast Guard send us!  I feel a great sense of pride having served my Country and do my best to honor my service and my country.

My first station was in Barnegat Light New Jersey at a surf station.  Surf stations rescue when it is deemed unsafe for other units to go out.  There was a light house at the station affectionately called "Old Barney"

I became watch qualified ( like a 911 operator for the water ways) and a qualified 47' motor life boat boat crew member.  I assisted saving lives and witnessed lives lost.  It was the most difficult and rewarding job I've ever had.  Put me completely outside of my comfort zone.

Me working the P6 pump as we are about to dewater a boat taking on water.

I have met the most amazing people who will forever be like family to me.  When I was at the station i lived with the crew 15 days out of the month, we ate together, berthed together, played jokes on each other, saved and lost lives together!

We hung out all the time and became so close and I hold them all near and dear, good people!

My 2nd duty station has been a blast as well.  Living it up in Honolulu Hawaii with some great friends!

Swamp Tour in Nawlans!!

In January of this year the team of people that i work with and I won an award and to be recognized we
were flown to New Orleans (which I have never been to).
My boss cut me lose the majority of the time and one day John and I decided it would be fun to go on a swamp tour!  We had such a GREAT time!
If I remember correctly this lil guy was called a muskrat.
I don't remember what this bird was called, but he was large and very impressive when he took flight!
If you know me you know I love trees and there were plenty on the tour!
More trees =)
I found the wet lands and the trees absolutely breath taking!!
The roots were amazing!
If you look closely you can see a baby Gators head popped up a bit out of the water!
There were 20-30 houses right on the water of the bayou, was pretty cool!

This trip to New Orleans was just John and I and for whatever reason is one of my favorite trips I've ever been on!

Cafe Du Monde

John and I at Cafe Du Monde.
We went there every day for breakfast while we were in New Orleans.
There Beignets are to die for!  There was always a street performer singing to playing an instrument. If your ever in New Orleans, its a MUST!
